What changed

On October 14, 2026, the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) provided updates on the Regional Economic Development through Immigration (REDI) initiative. The update was posted on Ontario's program updates page under October 16. A new round of REDI has launched and will run to the end of 2027.

The initiative will allocate nomination spaces to selected partner communities. According to Ontario, these communities have shown a critical need for newcomer talent and a strong potential for immigration uptake. This includes economic diversification, employer engagement and settlement services to support newcomer integration.

Who it affects

REDI operates within the OINP. It offers a pathway to permanent residence for skilled foreign workers who want to live and work in a participating community. The participating communities listed include:

  • Greater Sudbury/Grand Sudbury
  • Kenora District
  • Nipissing District
  • Rainy River District
  • Renfrew County
  • Thunder Bay

There is no separate application process for the initiative. To be considered, applicants must meet OINP eligibility requirements.

Dates

  • Update provided: October 14, 2026
  • The new round runs to: the end of 2027
