What it is
A work permit lets you work in Canada. Most are tied to one employer and need a positive LMIA or an LMIA exemption; some, such as post-graduation and certain spousal permits, are open.
We confirm which permit fits your situation, prepare the application with you and submit it to IRCC. We also handle extensions and changes of employer.
Who it's for
- You have a job offer from a Canadian employer with a positive LMIA.
- Your job may be LMIA-exempt, for example under a trade agreement or as an intra-company transfer.
- Your spouse or partner works or studies in Canada and you may qualify for an open work permit.
- You're finishing a program in Canada and want a post-graduation work permit (PGWP).
- Your permit is about to expire, or you're changing employers.
What you get
- A written service agreement with the scope, the fee and the timeline.
- Your own access to Lexova, the client portal we use, one of the most advanced client portals for immigration files (see how it compares): forms tailored to your case, a personalized document checklist, progress tracking and secure messages, so your file stays accurate and complete and is easy for you and your consultant to follow.
- A check of your eligibility against IRCC's current rules for your type of permit.
- A review of your employer's documents, such as the LMIA or the offer of employment, alongside yours.
- Submission to IRCC as your declared representative, and follow-up until the decision.
- Advice on your status while an extension is processed.
What it doesn't include
- The LMIA itself, which your employer applies for. See our LMIA service.
- Government fees: the work permit fee, the open work permit holder fee and biometrics.
- Finding a job or an employer.
- No guarantee: IRCC, and at the border an officer, makes the decision.
How it works
- Consultation
We look at your situation and confirm that this service fits before you commit to anything.
- Service agreement and file opening
You get a written agreement with the scope, the fee and the timeline. At signing you pay 50% of the fee, the file-opening fee. It covers opening your file, setting up your client portal and administrative onboarding, and it's non-refundable.
- Your Lexova client portal
You work in Lexova, the client portal we use, one of the most advanced client portals for immigration files (see how it compares). You complete forms tailored to your case, upload documents to your personalized checklist, follow your file's progress and exchange messages and documents securely. It keeps your file accurate and complete, and makes tracking and file management easy for you and your consultant.
- Preparation
Once your forms and documents are complete, we review everything and prepare the application with you. For most standard applications this usually takes about 3 business days; complex files take longer.
- Second payment
When the application is ready, we send you the invoice for the remaining 50%.
- Submission
Once it's paid, we submit your application to IRCC as your declared representative.
- Follow-up until the decision
We follow your file, answer requests for documents or information, and keep you informed until a decision is made.
Processing times are set by the government and change often. For current estimates, see IRCC's processing times page.
What to prepare

- Your job offer or employment contract.
- The LMIA decision letter, or the offer of employment number for an LMIA-exempt job.
- Proof of your qualifications: diplomas, licences and work references.

- For a spousal permit: your marriage or relationship documents and your partner's permit or enrolment letter.

Questions
Do I need an LMIA?
Most employer-specific permits need one, but many jobs are exempt. We check which applies before you or your employer pay any government fee.
Can I keep working while my extension is processed?
If you applied before your permit expired and you stay in Canada, you can usually keep working under the same conditions until IRCC decides. We confirm this for your case.
How long does a work permit take?
It depends on the type of permit and where you apply from. We don't estimate IRCC's timing; check IRCC's processing times page for current figures.
No one can guarantee an immigration outcome. Decisions are made by IRCC, ESDC, the provinces and Québec.
