About the OINP

The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) nominates workers for permanent residence. After nomination, you apply to IRCC, which makes the final decision. Since 2026-06-25, the OINP has had a single stream.

Current stream (as of 2026-10-11)

Stream Pathways Status
Ontario Workforce Priority TEER 0–3 occupations; TEER 4–5 occupations; self-employed physicians Open (EOI since 2026-08-04)

The stream is employer-initiated: in most cases an Ontario employer starts the process through the OINP Employer Portal, and the candidate then completes their part. Self-employed physicians have their own pathway. Read the eligibility rules for each pathway on the Ontario Workforce Priority page.

How selection works

  1. Employer registration. The employer registers in the OINP Employer Portal (launched 2025-07-02) and identifies the position.
  2. Expression of interest (EOI). The EOI system for the stream opened on 2026-08-04. Ontario selects from the EOIs it receives.
  3. Invitation and application. Selected candidates are invited to apply to the OINP.
  4. Nomination, then IRCC. After nomination, the candidate applies to IRCC for permanent residence.

The 2026 allocation

Ontario's nomination allocation is 14,119 for 2026. Ontario issued 10,750 nominations in 2025.

Recent changes

  • 2026-10-05: in the stream's EOI scoring, the "Canadian work experience: earnings history" factor now gives 10 points to registrants who earned $80,000 or more in a single year within the past 5 years, as shown on a Canada Revenue Agency Notice of Assessment. Ontario applied it automatically to existing EOIs.
  • 2026-08-04: EOI system opened for the Ontario Workforce Priority stream.
  • 2026-06-25: all 8 earlier OINP streams were removed and replaced by the Ontario Workforce Priority stream, and the Entrepreneur stream provisions were revoked (O. Reg. 204/26).
  • 2025-07-02: OINP Employer Portal launched.
