What it is

A refusal or an inadmissibility finding isn't always the end. The first step is to understand the officer's reasons.

We request your file notes, assess your options and prepare the application or request that fits: a reconsideration request, a criminal rehabilitation or temporary resident permit application, an Authorization to Return to Canada (ARC) or a humanitarian and compassionate (H&C) application.

Federal Court and Immigration and Refugee Board matters go to a lawyer or an RCIC-IRB licensee.

Who it's for

  • Your visa, permit or permanent residence application was refused and you don't know why.
  • You think the officer missed or misread something in your file.
  • You have a criminal record, including impaired driving, and want to travel to or stay in Canada.
  • You were removed from Canada and need permission to return.
  • You're in Canada and have strong humanitarian reasons to stay that no other program covers.

What you get

  • Your GCMS notes requested through an access to information request, then explained to you.
  • Your own access to Lexova, the client portal we use, one of the most advanced client portals for immigration files (see how it compares): forms tailored to your case, a personalized document checklist, progress tracking and secure messages, so your file stays accurate and complete and is easy for you and your consultant to follow.
  • A clear view of your options: reapply, request reconsideration, or speak with a lawyer about judicial review.
  • A reconsideration request to the office that decided, when the refusal shows a clear error.
  • An assessment of criminal inadmissibility, and the rehabilitation or temporary resident permit route that fits.
  • An ARC application if you were removed, or an H&C application built around your establishment, the best interests of any children and hardship.

What it doesn't include

  • Judicial review in the Federal Court. Deadlines are short, so contact a lawyer right away.
  • Appeals and hearings before the Immigration and Refugee Board.
  • Government fees for TRP, rehabilitation, ARC and H&C applications.
  • No guarantee: reconsideration is at the officer's discretion, and IRCC decides every application.

How it works

  1. Consultation

We look at your situation and confirm that this service fits before you commit to anything.

  2. Service agreement and file opening

You get a written agreement with the scope, the fee and the timeline. At signing you pay 50% of the fee, the file-opening fee. It covers opening your file, setting up your client portal and administrative onboarding, and it's non-refundable.

  3. Your Lexova client portal

You work in Lexova, the client portal we use, one of the most advanced client portals for immigration files (see how it compares). You complete forms tailored to your case, upload documents to your personalized checklist, follow your file's progress and exchange messages and documents securely. It keeps your file accurate and complete, and makes tracking and file management easy for you and your consultant.

  4. Preparation

Once your forms and documents are complete, we review everything and prepare the application with you. For most standard applications this usually takes about 3 business days; complex files take longer.

  5. Second payment

When the application is ready, we send you the invoice for the remaining 50%.

  6. Submission

Once it's paid, we submit your application to IRCC as your declared representative.

  7. Follow-up until the decision

We follow your file, answer requests for documents or information, and keep you informed until a decision is made.

Processing times are set by the government and change often. For current estimates, see IRCC's processing times page.

What to prepare

  • The refusal letter, and a copy of the application that was refused.
  • Your application number and UCI.
  • For criminal inadmissibility: court records, sentencing documents and proof you completed your sentence.
  • For an ARC: the removal order and any documents from the CBSA.
  • For H&C: evidence of your life in Canada, such as work, studies, community ties and family.

Questions

What are GCMS notes?

They're the notes in IRCC's Global Case Management System, including the officer's reasons. You get them through an access to information request. We request and explain them for $100.

Is reconsideration the same as an appeal?

No. It asks the office that decided to look at the file again, and the officer doesn't have to agree. Judicial review is a Federal Court process handled by lawyers, with short deadlines: 15 days for decisions made in Canada and 60 days for decisions made outside Canada.

Can I come to Canada with an impaired driving conviction?

Impaired driving is serious criminality in Canada, so a conviction can make you inadmissible. Depending on when and where it happened, you may need criminal rehabilitation or a temporary resident permit. The assessment tells you which.

No one can guarantee an immigration outcome. Decisions are made by IRCC, ESDC, the provinces and Québec.
